POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN MAXILLOFACIAL BIOMECHANICS
THE METHODIST HOSPITAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE & BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellowship position within the Surgical Planning Laboratory at the Methodist Hospital Research Institute. The general area of research will be soft tissue biomechanics as related to maxillofacial reconstructive surgery with special emphasis on the generation of anatomically detailed computer models and tissue deformation simulation. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative group of investigators who have expertise in and facilities for biomechanics, imaging, computational modeling, motion analysis, surgical planning, anatomy, and stereotactic surgery. The main responsibility of the candidate will be within the computational modeling section.
Duties and responsibilities, under minimal supervision, will include, 1) medical image manipulation and segmentation, 2) generation of computer models, 3) model validation, 4) analyzing and interpreting the data, 5) preparing manuscripts and abstracts for publication, 6) maintaining accurate and efficient records of performed studies, and 7) supervising activities of students or other laboratory personnel. It is expected that the individual will make an attempt to develop independent projects compatible with their experience level. Support for career development exists for motivated individuals.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or a related field. A dissertation or other research experience in an area related to FE biomechanics is desired. Good oral and written communication skills are required. Applicants should submit their CV, and contact information for three references.
