Bioengineer – Biomaterials & Implant Technology

The Bioengineering Division provides a specialist service to Royal Perth Hospital and the community of Western Australia in the areas of Biomaterials, Implant Technology and Rehabilitation Technology. Specialised skills are centred on the engineering disciplines of materials science, engineering design, biomechanics, tissue engineering and the orthotics, prosthetics, nursing and allied health services.
The Biomaterials and Implant Technology Service operates from purpose built laboratories on Level 1, North Block on the Wellington Street Campus of Royal Perth Hospital. These Laboratories include facilities for custom implant design, rapid prototyping and manufacture, implant tracking and retrieval, metallurgical preparation, examination and analysis, corrosion testing, materials and equipment testing, tissue assay and computer modelling systems.
A senior professional position for a scientist or engineer will be available within the Biomaterials and Implant Technology Service at Royal Perth Hospital from 1st May – 1st Oct 2011 (5 months). The duties of the position include the analysis and reporting of failure modes of retrieved implants and related project work.
A science or engineering degree is essential and preference will be given to candidates with at least 5 years experience in a similar field.
Experience in areas of biomaterials, mechanical testing and implant evaluation is desirable.
