PhD Scholarship for Monitoring and Modeling Swim Performance

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an academically strong applicant to become immersed in the New Zealand High Performance Swim Program. This opportunity has been created through a partnership between Swimming New Zealand, the AUT Sport Performance Research Institute New Zealand and the New Zealand Academy of Sport.

The PhD scholar will be part of the sport science team supporting New Zealand elite swimmers and will focus on the monitoring and modeling of performance. The successful applicant will be based primarily at the AUT-Millennium Institute of Sport on Auckland’s North Shore. The PhD thesis will be publication-based. The research will be supervised by Dr Tom Vandenbogaerde and Prof. Will Hopkins. The scholarship includes a stipend of NZ $35,000 tax free per year for three years.

Applicants must demonstrate well‐developed knowledge and research skills in one or more of performance analysis, exercise physiology and statistics. Familiarity with competitive swimming as an athlete, coach or support person is desirable.

Application guidelines and more information can be obtained from the PDF at:

    Applications close 8 April 2011.
