Job Description
Overview:
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University Medical Center is seeking a Director of Clinical Research to oversee and expand the clinical research program in musculoskeletal research and orthopaedic outcomes. The Director of Clinical Research will report to the Director of Research in Orthopaedic Surgery and will be responsible for the overall development of an extramurally funded clinical research program through his/her research and collaboration with other investigators in the Department and the School of Medicine. The Director of Clinical Research is expected to have active clinical research in the musculoskeletal field.
The scope of the position of Director of Clinical Research includes
• Advising Orthopaedic Faculty and House Staff in the conduct of clinical research,
• Obtaining federal and industrial grant funding for clinical research projects
• Review and preparation of clinical study protocols, regulatory plans and submissions to the appropriate regulatory bodies.
• Assisting Faculty with timely publication outcome plans for each clinical research project
• Working with the Vice Chair for Faculty affairs in developing strategies to mentor junior faculty and House Staff in clinical research,
Qualifications
• The minimum of a MD, or PhD with 4 or more years of experience in clinical research including study design, database development, statistical expertise, etc.
• Experience designing and obtaining funding for clinical research programs.
• Active clinical research in the musculoskeletal field.
• Working knowledge of regulations and policies related to research compliance as well as regulations governing the protection of human subjects and conflicts of interest.
• Experience establishing collaborations within a multi-faceted/multi-level team environment.
• Supervisory experience and strong communication, administrative, and management skills are required.
Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
