The Kessler Foundation Research Center (West Orange, New Jersey) is continuing to recruit postdoctoral fellows to conduct neuromuscular and musculoskeletal research applied to topics in adult medical rehabilitation. Applications are being accepted until all available positions are filled. The fellowships are funded by an Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training (ARRT) grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR, and are expected to last for a two year term.
Current research areas of high priority are:
* Gait and orthotic interventions in adults with hemiplegia secondary to stroke
* Topics in spinal cord injury rehabilitation, including electrical stimulation, neural adaptations, and musculoskeletal atrophy
* Image-based evaluation and biomechanical modeling in musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis
Qualifying candidates must have an earned doctorate in engineering (e.g. biomedical, rehabilitation, mechanical), biomechanics, kinesiology, or a related field. Strong candidates will have prior experience in performing research studies in human subjects, as well as some history of publication and presentation of original research. Additional desirable skills and experience include: experience with motion analysis, experience with medical imaging, experience with EMG collection/analysis, the ability to independently develop processing methods for data analysis (using for example Matlab or Labview), knowledge of statistical data analysis, and excellent written communication skills.
