We are now growing this area of research within our Postgraduate Medical Institute (PMI) to create a centre of excellence in teaching, consultancy and research. As a University-wide Institute the PMl's activity is across a broad portfolio including Medical Engineering, Well Being, Education and Health. This is an exciting opportunity to help grow our research expertise and ensure the PMI becomes a recognised centre of excellence within the region and the UK for Medical Engineering.
You will work within the Medical Engineering Research Group participating in research activities, advising postgraduate research students, designing research protocols, both by computer simulations and in vitro investigations, design of medical devices and the submission of scientific articles and grant proposals.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or near completion or other research qualification in a biomedical or related subject area, be innovative and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Job Purpose: To advance research activities within the Medical Engineering Research Group
Background Information:
The Research Associate in Medical Engineering will contribute to extending and promoting the work of the group and further enhancing their profile through interaction with the Post Graduate Medical Institute (PMI) based in Chelmsford. The post holder will also be responsible for contributing to the research activities of the group and help enhance our track record in the field of medical engineering both in the UK and internationally through publications and securing external funding.
Principal Accountabilities:
Contribute to the computer simulation of reconstructed reconstructed bones and soft tissues, using finite element method.
Develop in vitro research protocols to carry out biomechanics and biomaterial tests.
Assist with the development of motion analysis projects.
Promote the development of medical device research both within our university and with external partners and consultants.
Undertake research and consultancy and, where appropriate, some teaching duties.
Assist in writing collaborative funding bids for research, knowledge transfer and postgraduate training.
Supervise PhD students.
Help promote and develop our research profile nationally and internationally.
Together with the members of the Medical Engineering Research Group, work with relevant professional bodies, government agencies, private companies and individuals to develop and promote the work of the research group.
Assist in attracting research and development funding.
Prepare and deliver reports on research activity and related areas including progress reports on grants and consultancy.
Contribute to teaching within the Faculty.
Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
