    Research Tech Intermediate \ IT Support
    University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

    The School of Kinesiology is looking for a candidate to serve as a lab technician and provide IT support for the School. This position consists of a wide variety of tasks and a large amount of interaction with faculty, staff and graduate students, so an enthusiasm to learn new tasks and skills is critical. The candidate should be familiar with lab/research environment, and be able to perform electrical circuit troubleshooting, soldering and machining.

    Lab Technician 50%
    Provide lab support to various research labs within the School. Kinesiology faculty perform a wide variety of research, including Biomechanics, Motor Control, Health Promotion and Exercise Physiology, and this position provides electrical circuit troubleshooting, programming, soldering, machining and technical support for all of the research and teaching labs. Research lab duties include but are not limited to:
    - Provide analysis and consultation for test apparatus and data collection systems within the Kinesiology research laboratories.
    - Develop software using Matlab and Labview to support data collection, and the analysis of measured and archived data
    - Provide technical support of scientific equipment for operation, maintenance and repair.
    - Integrate mechanical/electrical systems with analog-to-digital data collection subsystems, computer hardware and software.
    - Install, troubleshoot, and purchase licensed research-computing hardware and software.
    - Occasional design and fabrication of simple mechanical/electrical systems.

    IT Support 50%
    Provide IT support to the School of Kinesiology. Provide first/second level PC support as part of the Kinesiology IT Support Team, which includes peripheral installation/troubleshooting, software installation, and computer OS installations. Duties include but are not limited to:
    - PC support/troubleshooting for Kinesiology faculty and staff for Windows-based computers
    - Computer software installation and troubleshooting
    - Serve as backup to the IT Manager
    - Diagnose hardware and software related issues

    Minimum Requirements:
    - Associate degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    - Computer desktop support experience
    - Experience with setup/operation/troubleshooting of scientific equipment
    - Ability to design, fabricate, solder simple mechanical/electrical systems
    - Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory and support tools

    Desired Requirements:
    - Web experience desired or willingness and ability to learn; specifically Drupal 6, HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
