    Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Footwear and Locomotion

    The Neuromechanics Laboratory at University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) is seeking highly motivated individuals to apply for a post-doctoral fellowship. The successful candidate will participate in research experiments that identify biomechanical and physiological effects of manipulating shoewear design that will lead to improvements in product safety and performance. The position is available immediately. The UMD Neuromechanics Lab (https://www.sph.umd.edu/KNES/faculty...neuromechanics) is currently conducting locomotion and hand research studies. In addition to state-of-art equipment for hand and finger research, the lab is currently utilizing a 12-camera Vicon system, 10 Kistler force platforms, a Noraxon 18-channel EMG system, a CareFusion Oxycon portable gas analyzer, 8 sets of laser timing sensors, etc. in 14,000 sq. ft. of space for current locomotion research studies.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    a. Conduct experiments with appropriate methodology, collect and analyze data carefully, and maintain well-organized records and research notes
    b. Effectively contribute to ongoing research and development projects
    c. Develop internal and external collaborations in support of research initiatives and seek for external funding
    d. Present and publish pertinent scientific findings to internal staff as well as the national and international scientific communities
    e. Collaborate with the Under Armour Innovation and Footwear team on product development, using scientific knowledge and research skills in the field of biomechanics

    Preferred Qualifications:
    a. PhD in biomechanics, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, bioengineering or a related field
    b. Extensive experiences with biomechanical research tools used in locomotion studies such as passive marker motion capture systems (i.e., Vicon), image-based high-speed cameras, electromyography, 3-D force plates/sensors, etc.
    c. Demonstrated proficiency in computer programming (Matlab, LabView, etc.)
    d. Demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and with a multidisciplinary team
    e. A proven high level of organizational and communication, both written and oral, skills, with a track record of both peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations
    f. Strong interest in sports product research and development

    Commensurate with experience
