Position for a Doctoral Student in Motor Control and Movement Rehabilitation at Northeastern University
We are seeking a highly motivated student to pursue a doctoral degree in Bioengineering with research on motor control and movement rehabilitation. The research involves a collaboration between the Action Lab in Biology and Engineering and the Neuro-Cognitive Rehabilitation Research Laboratory in Physical Therapy at Northeastern University. Our research concentrates on the effects of rehabilitation on recovery of walking and obstacle negotiation in people with stroke, funded by the American Heart Association. Besides this clinical work, the student will also have opportunities to be involved in additional research projects in Bioengineering at Northeastern University. Our labs have state-of-the-art equipment including several virtual reality set-ups with a robot manipulandum, 3D motion analysis system, EMG, EEG and TMS brain stimulation equipment.
Candidates should have a baccalaureate degree in one of the following disciplines: Engineering Sciences, Physics, Neuroscience, Biology or Kinesiology. The doctoral applicant should have a strong interest in an interdisciplinary approach to motor control and rehabilitation. He/she should have some expertise in programming (Matlab, C++, Statistics packages, etc.). The doctoral student is expected to get involved in existing research projects but is also encouraged to bring to bear his/her expertise into the research project.
The Action Lab and the Neuro-Cognitive Rehabilitation Research Laboratory are located centrally on Northeastern University campus with affiliations to the Departments of Biology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physical Therapy, and Physics. Northeastern University is located in the heart of Boston and our labs have collaborations with colleagues in other institutions in the Boston area which, with its unparalleled academic environment, provides stimulating opportunities for interdisciplinary research.
