The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Military Performance Laboratory (MPL) within the Center for the Intrepid (CFI), located at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MPL. This is a full-time position on an NIH R01 funded protocol to assess walking stability and the effect of gait training of individuals who have experienced an amputation. The incumbent will assist with all activities related to data collection, processing and management within the CFI MPL.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist with motion analysis data collection and processing data
2. Maintain involvement in professional activities including attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise
3. Synthesize test session results and generate reports
4. Assist with explaining protocols and obtaining informed consent
5. Maintain files on research subjects
6. Maintain equipment and computer resources
7. Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Biomechanical Engineering, or related field, from an accredited institution
2. Working knowledge of biomechanics and familiarity with the function of gait laboratories and research protocols
3. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and staff
4. Demonstrate an ability to learn new software quickly, troubleshoot computer related issues, and provide a high attention to detail
5. Able to work comfortably with computer software, including Matlab, Microsoft Office
6. Familiarity with Motion Analysis Corporation and Vicon hardware and software
