The Legacy Biomechanics Laboratory in Portland, Oregon, has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow to lead efforts in developing an advanced bicycle helmet to reduce the incidence of traumatic brain injury. Duties include using experimental and computational methods to develop, test and optimize novel structures that dissipate energy during head impact. Additional duties include team management, technology commercialization, and manuscript preparation as first author. Job requirements include a working knowledge of finite element modeling (e.g. Ansys LS-Dyna) and a Ph.D. in mechanical or biomedical engineering, or a related field. This individual will also have the opportunity to support ongoing and new laboratory projects in orthopaedic medicine. This position is for a two-year term, with potential for longer term employment.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and motivated multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and clinicians. The Legacy Biomechanics Lab has published over 50 manuscripts in medical journals, has developed several commercial products in orthopaedic medicine, including SamSling and MatrixRib, and has received funding from the National Institute of Health and the Department of Defense.
