Position Title: Assistant Professor – Exercise Science
Position Type: Northern Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position
opening in Exercise Science. Candidates who are interested in applying must have an earned doctorate
in biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control or combination from an accredited institution. The
position will begin in August 2012. Closing date for applications is February 1, 2012.
Responsibilities:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (MS level) in one or more exercise science areas.
• Coordinate the undergraduate program in Sports Science.
• Advise undergraduate students in the Sports Science program and graduate students in
Exercise Science (MS level).
• Direct Master’s level graduate theses.
• Work with other faculty in maintenance and supervision of the Exercise Science Laboratory.
• Develop and maintain a personal program of research and scholarship.
• Participate on Departmental and University committees.
Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in an exercise science related area – biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor
control or combination area from an accredited institution.
• Evidence of research and scholarship.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
• Expertise in clinical exercise sciences.
• College teaching experience.
• Ability to secure external funding.
