  • Graduate Study in Kinesiology at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

The Department of Kinesiology (College of Health Sciences) at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee is seeking motivated graduate students for our M.S. Kinesiology and Ph.D. in Health Sciences programs. These multidisciplinary programs prepare students for careers in higher-education, research, and practice through didactic coursework in the areas of Exercise and Nutrition in Health and Disease, Integrative Human Performance, and Neuromechanics. Knowledge and skills in research-related and discipline-specific coursework helps prepare students to address complex real-world health and performance issues and utilize critical thinking skills to generate knowledge and make sound decisions to support continued personal and professional development.

Selected active research in the Integrative Human Performance and the Neuromechanics areas include the mechanics of lower extremity injuries, development of new motion capture technologies, emergence of leg control in infants, cortical role in visuomotor coupling, and age-related control of balance and force regulation. Department of Kinesiology and MS Kinesiology program information, including details on the application process can be found at www4.uwm.edu/chs/academics/kinesiology/kinesiology_masters/. Please direct MS Kinesiology questions to Dr. Stephen Cobb (414-229-3369 or gradkin@uwm.edu). Interested applicants are also strongly encouraged to contact a faculty member(s) in their area of interest to discuss potential funding and research opportunities.

Information on the Health Sciences PhD program can be found at http://www4.uwm.edu/chs/academics/phd_health_sciences/. Please direct PhD program questions to Dr. Jeri-Anne Lyons (414-229- 3812 or jlyons@uwm.edu).

Several graduate teaching assistant (GTA) positions are available. GTA appointments are half-time (~20 hours per week) and carry a waiver of tuition plus a stipend of approximately $11,600- $16,200 per academic year. For full consideration for a GTA appointment, materials must be received by January 15. A limited number of fellowships and free standing awards may be available to outstanding students. Additionally, research or project assistantships may be available pending individual faculty funding. Only students admitted to the MS or PhD programs will be considered for a GTA appointment.
