    SCHOOL OF APPLIED SCIENCES

    THE POSITION
    The University of Mississippi (www.olemiss.edu) seeks applications and nominations for the position of
    Dean of the School of Applied Sciences. The School of Applied Sciences is a free-standing academic unit
    whose Dean reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. As the chief administrator of the
    School, the Dean provides leadership in long-range planning, policy making, budgeting, fund raising,
    recruiting students and faculty, promoting and expanding external and alumni relations for the School, and
    other activities that foster outstanding teaching, research, and service.

    The School of Applied Sciences (www.olemiss.edu/depts/applied_sciences), the fastest growing academic
    unit at The University of Mississippi, offers professional preparation programs that integrate academic study,
    clinical training, creative research, service-learning, and community outreach leading to the development of
    leaders whose professional endeavors improve health and well-being. The School houses five academic
    departments: Communication Sciences & Disorders; Health, Exercise Science & Recreation Management;
    Legal Studies; Nutrition & Hospitality Management; and Social Work. More than 2,200 undergraduate
    students are enrolled in the school’s eight undergraduate baccalaureate degree programs. The school’s seven
    master degree programs and one doctoral program enroll over 200 graduate students. Various clinics,
    laboratories and centers in the school include the Speech & Hearing Center, Lenoir Dining, the Center for
    Health Behavior Research, the Center for Intelligence & Security Studies, and the National Food Service
    Management Institute.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution, as well as academic
    qualifications and scholarly accomplishments meriting appointment to the rank of professor with tenure in an
    academic department within the school. In addition, candidates should possess: a record of successful
    administrative experience and leadership in higher education; a record of and commitment to excellence in
    teaching, research and service; strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate working
    relationships with students, university personnel, alumni, and business leaders; a commitment to raise funds
    from external sources; an understanding of higher education and the importance of a collaborative and
    interdisciplinary environment; and a commitment to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

    COMPENSATION
    Starting salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
