Our highly involved faculty routinely receives national and local recognition for excellence in teaching, professional service, clinical practice, and scholarship.

Located in Syracuse’s dynamic “University Hill” neighborhood, SUNY Upstate is the largest employer in the region. Having recently acquired a 300-bed hospital and engaging in building projects of over $350M including a new Heart and Cancer center, Upstate is a thriving university and driver of the Syracuse regional economy. The University includes four health-oriented Colleges with $41M in sponsored research funding.

Opportunities abound for interdepartmental collaboration with established investigators and access to research within Upstate’s “core facilities”. The Institute of Human Performance (IHP) is a nationally-recognized research facility with state-of the-art equipment including an indoor track, full-size pool with moveable floor, real-time motion capture and force plate capabilities, and a SwimEx® pool. In addition the first phase of planning for a new academic building is well underway and is still on target for an expected opening in 2013. The building will become the home for many of the academic programs, including the entire College of Nursing academic and administrative space, the dean’s office of the College of Health Professions, and the physician assistant and physical therapy programs.
