    In the frame of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network “SPINEFX” (www.spinefx.eu),
    the Institute of Surgical Technology and Biomechanics of the University of Bern (www.istb.unibe.ch), Switzerland, is seeking an

    Early Stage Researcher in Spine Biomechanics

    for a period of one year, starting as soon as possible.

    Following the eligibility rules of ITNs, the candidate must have completed her/his Master’s or equivalent Degree within the past 4 years and must neither be a Swiss national nor having resided more than 12 months in Switzerland in the past 3 years.
    An early stage researcher with expertise in biomechanics and strong organizational skills is looked for to contribute to two workpackages including tasks in image processing, mechanical design, biomechanical testing and finite element analysis.
    The global aim of the local research program consists in developing new strategies to simulate vertebral failure in clinical circumstances such as osteoporosis, metastatic defects, fixation devices or cement augmentation.
    The candidate will be involved in a challenging multidisciplinary research network of universities, hospitals and industries, will extend her/his education in specific workshops on spinal disease and trauma and will attend at least one international scientific conference.
    The candidate must hold a Master’s Degree or an equivalent European Engineering Diploma in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. EU citizenship, knowledge of the German language and previous publications in peer-reviewed journals are useful, but not mandatory.
