Fully funded PhD opportunity in joint tissue biomechanics research
We are seeking a motivated student to join the Experimental Tissue Mechanics Research Group in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering for doctoral studies.
The research will focus on the investigation of the fundamental structural/mechanical mechanisms governing cartilage normal function and the complex structural changes associated with early osteoarthritic degeneration and ageing. The project will involve both micromechanical analysis and structural studies conducted at the macro, micro and ultrastructural (SEM, TEM) levels.
The research will be conducted under the supervision of Professor Neil Broom and Dr Ashvin Thambyah. This position is to be fully funded by a prestigious Marsden grant from the Royal Society of NZ, and includes a 3-year tax free stipend of NZ$25000/year + doctoral fees paid for, and will include some funded travel opportunities. How to apply: Submit your CV and a brief statement of interest to: Ashvin Thambyah, email: ashvin.thambyah@auckland.ac.nz
