Postdoctoral Fellow in Musculoskeletal Modelling & Simulation

School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering, University of Manchester, UK

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester. We are searching for an outstanding, energetic individual to work in the area of musculoskeletal modelling and simulation of human movement. The project is funded by the UK EPSRC with the goal being to construct a novel whole-body musculoskeletal model to predict normal human walking with minimal measurement inputs. This is a fascinating challenge because of the complexities of human movement in three dimensions and its coordination by the central nervous system.

The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent degree in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related discipline. Experience in computer modelling and simulation of multi-body dynamic systems is highly desirable, as is expertise in Matlab programming. Ideally, previous experience of musculoskeletal modelling would also be desirable. You should be enthusiastic and highly motivated with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to work with minimum supervision. Initially the position is available for 16 months starting 1st February 2012, with renewal dependent on performance and continued availability of funding.

Interviews are planned for early January 2012. The online application through will be available shortly.
