  • Neuromechanics - University of British Columbia - Okanagan Campus, Kelowna

The School of Health and Exercise Sciences at the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus invites applications for a tenure-track position in human neuromechanics. Rank is open (assistant, associate, or full professor) and is dependent on the experience and track record of the candidate. Appointment will begin as early as July 1st, 2012.

We seek an individual with demonstrated excellence in conducting basic and translational research with a specific focus on neuromechanics and/or neuromotor control in human health and disease. The applicant’s research program should be complementary to the expertise of the current faculty in order to achieve the mission of the School to optimize human health through interdisciplinary research and education.

Applicants at the assistant professor level must have a Ph.D. and relevant postdoctoral training and be able to demonstrate a record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as strong potential to secure competitive, external research funding. Applicants for associate or full professor must have an international track record in research including the ability to secure competitive external funding. They must also be able to demonstrate excellence in the mentorship of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty. Research that fits with NSERC and CIHR funding opportunities is desirable. The successful candidate must also demonstrate outstanding evidence or potential for undergraduate and graduate teaching in the areas of biomechanics, neurophysiology, and/ or motor control.

UBC is consistently ranked among the world’s top 40 universities, and the UBC system comprises two distinct and autonomous campuses in the province of British Columbia—one in Vancouver and the other in Kelowna. Situated in the Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of the province, Kelowna is experiencing rapid growth and is considered one of the most desirable regions to live in Canada.

The School of Health and Exercise Sciences was launched in July 2011, combining the Health Studies and Human Kinetics programs that were established in 2006. The School offers undergraduate concentrations in health studies, health promotion and exercise science. Graduate studies draw on resources of the School and the broader Faculty to offer Interdisciplinary Master’s and PhD level degrees in health, human kinetics and health services research.
