Ph.D. Studentship, at the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK:
"The role of lower-limb biomechanics and energy cost in walking difficulties experienced by older people with Type 2 diabetes"
A 3-year funded Ph.D. studentship is available through the Joint Doctorate Program ‘MOVE-AGE’ (http://www.move-age.eu). This Ph.D. studentship will be based at the Manchester Metropolitan University’s Institute for Biomedical Research into Human Movement and Health, in the UK, with a 6-month mobility period to be undertaken in K.U. Leuven, Belgium.
The Ph.D. studentship will investigate the role of altered lower-limb biomechanics and the energy cost of walking, in terms of walking difficulties experienced by people with type 2 diabetes. The project will involve gait analysis techniques, measurements of oxygen consumption during walking and also in vivo imaging of muscle and tendon using ultrasound.
All applications for this Ph.D. studentship must be made via the MOVE-AGE website: http://www.move-age.eu. Start date for this Ph.D. will be September 2012. The deadline for applications is 15th January, 2012 and interviews are expected to be held early in February 2012.
For further details about the studentships and general conditions of the Joint Doctoral Program, please refer to the MOVE-AGE website: http://www.move-age.eu. For informal enquiries about the Ph.D. studentship please contact Dr. Neil Reeves at the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK (N.Reeves@mmu.ac.uk).
