The Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) at Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Athletic Training. The Department of HHP serves approximately 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise and Sport Science, Health Education, and Recreation. This is a full-time, tenure-track/tenured faculty position with a nine-month academic year appointment beginning August, 2012. The successful candidate will: (1) be responsible for delivering quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in athletic training; (2) pursue a focused area of research and scholarship that culminates in peer-reviewed presentations and publications; (3) serve as an advisor for graduate research, (4) seek extramural research funding; (5) have active membership in relevant professional associations/organizations; and (6) serve on committees and participate in official activities at the department, college and university levels.
Qualifications
Required:
Earned doctorate in Athletic Training or related field prior to appointment date;
Current BOC certification and eligibility for athletic training licensure in Texas;
Demonstrable evidence of research and scholarship; and
Previous experience teaching at the university level.
Preferred:
Experience or participation in grant-writing and obtaining external funding for athletic training/sports medicine-related research projects;
Experience with graduate education and the ability to contribute to master’s degree programs;
Ability to integrate multicultural perspectives into teaching;
At least 3 years of experience in the clinical practice of athletic training;
Prior experience as an approved clinical instructor in a CAATE-accredited athletic training education program;
Demonstrated leadership in program, university and professional service activities and organizations; and
Commitment to working collaboratively with department faculty, staff, and others throughout the institution/organization.
