The Department of Kinesiology, School of Public Health, University of Maryland*‐College Park (www.sph.umd.edu/KNES/) invites applications for a 9‐month Assistant Professor tenure‐track position in movement science (e.g., biomechanics, motor control, motor neuroscience, motor learning, neuromechanics). The successful candidate is expected to conduct research underlying the selection, planning, learning, initiation, and execution of movement at any stage of the lifespan. The Department offers opportunities for collaboration with a multidisciplinary faculty. Laboratory facilities support human and animal exercise testing and interventions, electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), motion analysis (VICON), ten force plates, a portable gas analyzer, a virtual reality cave, as well as facilities for genomics and cell/molecular research. Collaborative opportunities are encouraged through campus‐wide programs in neuroscience, bioengineering, computational biology and human development. The campus resources include the Maryland Neuroimaging Center that houses a Siemens 3T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and whole‐head magnetoencephalographic (MEG) imaging. Additional research opportunities are enabled by partnerships with universities and organizations throughout the Baltimore‐Washington region including NIH.
Qualifications: Candidates for the position should possess a Ph.D. in kinesiology, neuroscience, bioengineering, or a related field. Post‐doctoral experience and a history of extramural funding are desirable. The applicant must demonstrate evidence of a sustainable and focused research program and a strong publication record. The candidate is expected to have a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to research with relevance to its translational significance.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a nationally recognized program of original research, including collaborative activities with current faculty, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that complement existing curricular offerings, and develop and maintain an externally funded research program.
Salary: Negotiable, depending upon experience; start‐up funds competitive
