The Program in Physical Therapy at the University of Minnesota is inviting applications from talented and experienced national leaders to serve as Program Director at a rank commensurate with experience (Associate or Full Professor). This position opening results from the promotion of the previous Director, Dr. James Carey. The position is a 12- month, tenured appointment. Responsibilities include fiscal and administrative leadership, advocacy, and oversight of the PT Program; performance and publication of extramurally funded research; and selected graduate teaching and advising, including involvement in the PhD Program in Rehabilitation Sciences. The position requires an academic doctorate and clinical degree in Physical Therapy. The ideal candidate will have a vision and passion for excellence in physical therapy professional, residency, and academic doctoral education, as well as enthusiasm for faculty governance. The ideal candidate will also support the advancement of the profession through high quality scientific inquiry across the spectrum of basic, translational, and clinical research.
The Program in Physical Therapy upholds a strong national reputation with regard to quality of graduates, NIH funding, and scientific productivity. The Program is an academic unit with a 70-year history within the School of Medicine. Degree programs include Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), a joint DPT/PhD, a credentialed Geriatric Residency, and MS/PhD degrees in Rehabilitation Science. An Associate Director assists the Program Director, and there are 14 full time faculty lines. The Program renewed its full accreditation status in 2011. The University of Minnesota is a major public research institution with substantial opportunities for collaborative work with well-established faculty in medical and biomedical disciplines. Currently, Physical Therapy faculty are active in federally funded research in areas of musculoskeletal dysfunction and rehabilitation, muscle adaptations with aging and disease, neuroplasticity, fMRI, and TMS.
