  • Senior Postdoctoral Position in Spinal Deformity Biomechanics and Imaging

The QUT/Mater Hospitals Paediatric Spine Research Group (PSRG) located in Brisbane, Australia, wishes to appoint a senior postdoctoral researcher for an initial two year contract commencing in early 2012. The group undertakes research into spinal deformity, with a focus on surgical (fusion and growth modulation) strategies for correction of paediatric and adolescent scoliosis. The group performs both clinical and biomechanics research, and is looking for an experienced postdoctoral researcher with expertise in orthopaedic biomechanics, spine biomechanics, in vitro biomechanical testing and medical imaging using CT/MRI as well as image processing and interpretation (e.g. fusion grading) for spine applications. Potential applicants with the necessary expertise and a PhD in Medical/Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields are encouraged to apply. The group has an existing computational modelling senior postdoctoral staff member and so the emphasis on the current position is a candidate with experimental and clinical research skills and experience.

In addition to performing high quality spinal deformity research projects in collaboration with other academic staff and clinicians, the successful candidate will be expected to play a leadership role through supervision of Masters and PhD students, supervision of clinicians performing research projects with the group, seeking external funding through grant applications, maintaining and developing relationships with academic and industry partners, working with the group’s senior research assistant, QUT and Mater Hospital staff to meet reporting requirements, and managing the group’s finances and administration.

The starting salary for the position will be $96218 AUD per year (LEVC classification).

Potential applicants should send a full academic Curriculum Vitae, a letter of interest and the names and addresses of three academic referees to Associate Professor Clayton Adam (c.adam@qut.edu.au) as soon as possible. Review of applications will commence on 31st January 2012 with a view to selection and commencement in February/March 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. More information on Queensland University of Technology can be found at www.qut.edu.au, and a partial list of PSRG research publications can be found at http://eprints.qut.edu.au/view/perso...,_Clayton.html
