Assistant/Associate Professor in Neuromechanics of Posture or Locomotion

The Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (PTHMS), Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, invites applicants for a new full-time appointment in a tenure track position in the area of neuromechanics of posture or locomotion. Teaching responsibilities will involve team-teaching in the musculoskeletal and neurosciences courses in our Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum and in affiliated PhD training programs—more specifically, NUIN-MRS and the DPT-PhD in Engineering programs. The position also includes student advising, scholarship, and service on departmental committees. Depending on the experience and background of the applicant, this position is being offered at the assistant or associate professor level. Salary is negotiable. Ideal applicants will hold a PhD or PhD/PT, with 2 or more years of post-doctoral experience and strong scholarly productivity. Applicants are expected to develop an independent research program with strong federal and private funding.
PTHMS is a part of the vibrant educational and cultural community of Northwestern University. We are located on the Chicago campus of Northwestern University, between Lake Michigan and North Michigan Avenue along "Chicago's Magnificent Mile". The Department includes strong, talented faculty engaged in research, teaching and clinical practice. Faculty have collaborations in the Departments of Biomedical, Mechanical Engineering, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurology, Physiology, Orthopedics and Neurological Surgery. Courtesy appointments in engineering are available depending on the applicant’s background. PTHMS faculty participate in two graduate student training programs in movement and rehabilitation sciences, through a joint DPT-PhD(Eng) program with Biomedical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and through the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience (NUIN) program. Research interests of faculty members are focused on the understanding of movement disorders in persons with neuromuscular dysfunction, including stroke and spinal cord injury through the use of engineering, robotic and pharmacologic approaches.
