The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems at Drexel University (www.biomed.drexel.edu) invites nominations and applications for tenure track faculty positions in Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Science starting September 2012. The purpose of this announcement is to solicit nominations and applications pertaining to the areas of Orthopedic Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Engineering.
Drexel's School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems is a free-standing (College-level) academic unit comprised of a multidisciplinary team of faculty. The present enrollment in the School includes 529 undergraduate students and more than 200 graduate students. Outstanding collaborations exist between the School's faculty and the faculty of other colleges, schools and departments across the Drexel campuses. Particularly notable are the collaborative relationship between the School and the College of Medicine, the College of Engineering and the Life Science disciplines. The School's faculty have also developed an extensive collaboration network with regional universities including the University of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson Medical School, Temple University and a myriad of research institutes, regional hospitals and industries.
Faculty research interests spreads over the entire spectrum of the Biomedical Engineering Field, namely: Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials; Neuroengineering; Biosensors; Biomedical Imaging including biomedical Ultrasound; Biomechanics; Biomedical Optics and Bionanotechnology Bio-systems modeling, to name a few. Translational research is a high priority of the School’s faculty and students who are committed to rapidly move their discoveries into the healthcare field.
Drexel University is a private, urban university located in Center City Philadelphia and is recognized for its traditionally strong technological focus and career-integrated education. The School of Biomedical Engineering Science and Health Systems is a nationally recognized center for biomedical engineering and science research and education founded in 1958 and reorganized into a full fledged educational program (undergraduate and graduate) in 1998. The School confers ABET accredited undergraduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering and MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering and in Biomedical Science. The School's graduate program is one of the oldest in the country.
Qualifications
All candidates who wish to apply must have earned a PhD degree from a top tear academic institution. We are seeking only outstanding candidates committed to leading interdisciplinary research teams, teaching (at undergraduate and graduate levels) and networking and partnering with medical and clinical faculty and industry. Successful candidates are expected to have excellent research and academic credentials in biomedical engineering, science and related fields. They must be prepared to develop interdisciplinary research programs at the forefront of their disciplines and lead translational research programs. They should also be willing to participate in teaching and curriculum development, as well as supervise student research projects, both at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Candidates with a track record of externally funded research will be given a favorable consideration. Applicants for senior faculty ranks are expected to provide evidence of outstanding accomplishment in funded scientific research and should posses qualities of leadership and creativity confirmed through formal credentials and national recognition. Entry level faculty must demonstrate potential to perform competitively.
