The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Lead Researcher demonstrating leadership and expertise in Computational Biomechanics, with extensive knowledge in modeling human body response in dynamic events. The selected candidate will join and lead a high-performing and motivated team of biomechanics experts across multiple projects within the Biomechanics & Injury Mitigation Systems (BIMS) Program. He/She will participate in the development of high-fidelity, multi-scale next-generation computational models for the purpose of increasing understanding of injury mechanisms and developing improved mitigation systems.
The selected Lead Researcher, Computational Biomechanics will:
* Provide technical leadership and direction for an experienced, talented team of engineers. Responsible for project leadership, technical contribution, reporting of results, and maintaining scope/schedule to achieve project objectives. Cultivate an innovative, problem-solving environment. Promote close collaboration with experimental efforts used to validate computational models. Ensure alignment of technical objectives with program goals. Develop integrated project plans and ensure timeliness and quality of project tasks and deliverables.
* Assist the Program Manager in management activities for all computational model project areas. Execute the program vision for the computational efforts to include further developing a focused, innovative, high-performing computational modeling team. Provide staff with supervision and guidance. Develop and maintain supporting staff plans and anticipate staffing needs.
* Contribute to sponsor reporting, technical presentations and manuscript composition. Responsible for the preparation, oversight, and quality of delivered projects. Communicate results to program management, sponsors, and the scientific community through peer-reviewed journal publications and technical meetings.
* Assist in the conceptualization and proposal of new project areas. Promote collaborative exchange of ideas between team members to aid the establishment of new tasking to meet sponsor objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* PhD in Engineering Mechanics/Biomechanics or a related field and a minimum of 5 years experience modeling the human body response to dynamic loading scenarios.
* Expert in finite element analysis and finite element modeling software including LS-Dyna.
* Demonstrated ability in leading an experienced team of engineers toward a common project goal.
* Strong analytical and organizational skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to present technical results pertaining to biomedical research and to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
* Demonstrated initiative, motivation, flexibility and interest in working in a team environment.
* Willingness to work on dynamic projects and ability to prioritize concurrent tasks to meet the overall objectives of the program.
Desired:
* Experience in biological tissue testing for computational model validation.
* Experience in end-to-end computational model development of biological systems including medical imaging, CAD modeling, mesh development using True Grid software, and model integration.
* Proficient in computational fluid dynamics especially blast events.
SECURITY:
Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for a NAC/LAC and access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US CITIZENSHIP.
