Job Description:
Immediate opening for a Research & Development Engineer at the Technology Implementation Research Center (TIRC), Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, Massachusetts General Hospital. The TIRC is a unique initiative aimed developing technologies that will dramatically enhance quality of patient care. We are a fast growing center that offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of technology development, and to work with a close knit team of highly experienced clinicians, engineers and scientists.
The project is aimed at the design of improved modular taper joints. The R&D engineer will be primarily responsible for computer aided design, prototyping, and structural analysis. Other responsibilities include design of experimental setups, execution of in vitro/laboratory testing, and preparation of project reports/documents. A creative mindset, strong team oriented work ethic, and willingness to develop new skills are a must. Requirements:
• MS (2+yr experience) or PhD in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering
• Extensive experience with design of taper joints
• Excellent understanding of fretting related wear and corrosion phenomenon
• Strong computer aided design skills and proficiency (advanced user) in one or more associated tools such as SolidWorks
• Strong hands on design and prototyping experience
• Excellent knowledge of finite element analysis techniques and proficiency in one or more associated tools such as ABAQUS
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency in MATLAB programming is highly desirable
