PhD Studentship in the Mechanical Analysis of Low Back Pain & Novel Stem Cell Treatment
Manchester Metropolitan University, UK.
This project aims to study the effects of treating degenerated intervertebral discs by injecting the discs with hydrogel impregnated with stem cells. The study will look at the mechanical effect of the injection process and understand the increased risks for pain and injury caused by degenerated discs. The treatment will be assessed using a finite element model generated from data gathered using MRI imaging on human subjects in vivo and from in vitro testing on bovine and human cadaver specimens.
Candidates should ideally have an Engineering/Mathematics/Physics background.
Interested candidates can apply through http://www.mmu.ac.uk/research/studentships/scieng.php
For informal inquiries please contact Dr. Glen Cooper or Dr. Neil Reeves (n.reeves@mmu.ac.uk, g.cooper@mmu.ac.uk)
