Department of Human Movement Science
Three full-time professorships/associate professorships in human movement science (SVT-986)
The Department of Human Movement Science is seeking to further enhance its scientific portfolio by filling three permanent academic positions at the level of Full Professor or Associate Professor in Human Movement Science (motor behaviour/biomechanics/epidemiology).
The Department of Human Movement Science has a strong focus on both fundamental and applied research related to physical activity and health, top-level athletics, and movement disorders. In collaboration with the Medical Faculty, the Department contributes to the interfaculty PhD study programme in Health Sciences, and is the only Department in Norway that offers a Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Human Movement Science. The Department presently employs 4 Full Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 2 administrative staff, 1 senior laboratory engineer, 1 Post doc, and 8 Doctoral candidates. The Department wishes to employ one new staff member in the field of motor behaviour, one in biomechanics, and one in epidemiology. Together with the other academic staff at the Department, successful candidates will be jointly responsible for academic matters. Successful candidates will be particularly responsible for teaching and research within one or more of the following fields of study: motor behaviour, biomechanics related to human movement, and epidemiology related to physical activity and health. Successful candidates have the right and obligation to carry out research within their academic fields, and should also participate in administrative work. Successful candidates are required to participate in teaching activities in accordance with the existing curriculum, and to assist in further developing the teaching program, including continuing education. The successful candidates will be expected to supervise Master students and Doctoral candidates within their disciplines and to participate in exams work without specific remuneration. The total work load is generally divided over research, teaching, and administrative duties. The division between these areas will vary but over time, approximately equal time should be devoted to research and to teaching. Successful candidates are obliged to follow the regulations that concern changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities of the University.
Successful candidates must document extensive academic qualifications within substantial parts of the relevant fields of study. The minimum requirement for academic competence is a PhD or equivalent degree in one or more fields of study the candidates will be particularly responsible for. The quality and scope of research production will be evaluated. The applicant’s ability to initiate and lead research- and development projects will be emphasized, as well as experience in research related to health, rehabilitation, training and/or physical performance ability. Documented international research collaboration and experience in teaching anatomy and/or research methods will be advantageous. Personal suitability will be ascribed high importance, particularly regarding communication- and collaboration skills.
Pedagogical qualifications will also be evaluated. The evaluation will be based on documented pedagogical material, such as pedagogical education, presentational skills in scientific work, experience from Doctoral- and Master level supervision and teaching, and pedagogical background of other sorts.
Candidates without formal university pedagogical competence and that cannot document equivalent qualifications, are required within a two-year period to pass a course in university pedagogics. NTNU provides such courses.

Newly-employed staff in academic positions who are not already fluent in a Scandinavian language must within three years obtain knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at a standard equivalent to level three in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided at the Department of Language- and Communication Studies of NTNU.
