We are looking for an engineering postdoctoral research associate to join the Phillip Spiegel Orthopaedic Research Laboratory at the Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education in Tampa, FL. This postdoctoral associate will be primarily involved in an industry-supported project pertaining, in general, to shoulder biomechanics and, specifically, to the kinetics and kinematics associated with reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). Successful completion of this study will require a candidate with interest in shoulder biomechanics, experience with biomechanical testing, and a background in finite element modeling.
The postdoctoral candidate will also be involved in additional general orthopaedic biomechanics projects that pertain to the evaluation of novel hip fracture fixation systems, acetabular fracture fixation, and lumbar and cervical spine biomechanical studies, among others.
The successful candidate will have experience in biomechanical design, bioinstrumentation, biomechanical testing and finite element modeling. Extensive resources are available for computational modeling (MIMICS, Abaqus/CAE) in vitro biomechanical testing (axial/torsion load frames, spine kinematic testing system) and motion analysis (Optotrak Certus Motion Capture System). The applicant should also be comfortable with cadaveric specimen testing. We expect this person to be self-motivated, have a strong work ethic and excellent verbal and written communication skills. We provide a great opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of scientists, clinicians, research fellows, orthopaedic fellows and residents.
The applicant should have a Ph.D. in mechanical or biomedical engineering. The position is for a minimum of 1 year, with renewal dependent on performance and continued availability of funding.
