Temporary Assistant Professor of Health and Exercise Sciences
Health and Exercise Sciences Department, Truman State University, Kirksville, MO
The Department of Health & Exercise Sciences in the School of Health Sciences and Education seeks a Temporary Assistant Professor of Health and Exercise Science for fall 2012 beginning on August 15, 2012. Depending on University and Department needs, the position may be renewable for Fall 2013.
SALARY: Commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience; benefits package includes life, health and disability insurance, retirement contributions, and partial reimbursement for moving expenses.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Successful candidates must be able to teach a variety of exercise science and health science courses based on the competencies and responsibilities of a Health Fitness Specialist and/or a Certified Health Education Specialist. Possible courses may include, but are not limited to, motor control, biomechanics, human anatomy, research methods, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, health administration and management, and other courses based on academic skills and departmental need. Candidates should be strongly committed to teaching in a liberal arts and sciences environment. If the position is extended beyond the first year, the candidate will be expected to provide service to the university to include academic advising.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must provide evidence of:
• Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Exercise Science or Health Science or related area
• Expertise in at least two content areas in the exercise sciences or health sciences
• Demonstrated teaching effectiveness or the potential for teaching effectiveness
• Strong oral and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ph.D. in Exercise or Health Science or related area
• Current HFS certification and/or current CHES certification
• Previous teaching experience at the university level

DEPARTMENT: The mission of the Health & Exercise Sciences Department is to prepare students of strong academic ability and character to become agents of change for the health and well-being of all people. The department serves about 700 students within three undergraduate degree programs in athletic training, exercise science and health science. The department maintains several state of the art facilities for teaching and research purposes. Students and faculty have access to a human anatomy lab for cadaver dissection, and human performance lab including its own DEXA machine and blood lab, two athletic training clinics, and the Piper Movement Analysis Laboratory. The Piper Lab is a 2200 square foot facility including a Vicon Nexus Motion analysis system with 10 T40s cameras and two reference cameras, two Bertec force plates, portable Kistler force plate, Delsys Trigno EMG system, NeuroCom Balance Analyzer and additional equipment for teaching and research.
