  • Flinders VC's Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme 2012

The Flinders University Vice Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme is an initiative to build the University’s research and to support outstanding early career researchers seeking to commence an academic/research career. The scheme focuses on outstanding early career researchers who would normally be within 5 working years since completing their Doctoral qualification. The Scheme provides appointments of 3 years full-time research, but 4-year appointments will be considered for highly ranked candidates who participate in a teaching component.
Applications are encouraged in the area of the Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI), which is a uniquely multi-disciplinary research network that aims to be the national research leader in the medical devices industry. The MDRI is a network of researchers, highly skilled in the development and application of a diverse range of medical technologies. This collaborative approach to the research for innovative solutions and services makes the MDRI ideal as a single site for product development and testing - taking projects from fundamental concepts right through to preliminary clinical trialing.

The MDRI (http://www.flinders.edu.au/science_e...research/mdri/) includes more than fifty researchers and clinicians from Flinders University, Flinders Medical Centre and the Repatriation General Hospital. The MDRI collaborates in research, development, application and commercialisation of medical devices and technologies to benefit the community. In particular, MDRI has a number of long-term research programs which include:
    • Assistive Technologies (http://www.flinders.edu.au/science_e.../assistive.cfm)
    • Biomechanics and Implants http://www.flinders.edu.au/science_e...h-implants.cfm
    • Medical devices and instrumentation: http://www.flinders.edu.au/science_e...nstruments.cfm
    • Health Informatics: http://www.flinders.edu.au/science_e...nformatics.cfm
    • Medical Signals and Imaging: http://www.flinders.edu.au/science_e...ch/signals.cfm
    • Medical Simulation and Modelling: http://www.flinders.edu.au/science_e...ation/home.cfm

Up to 4 Research Fellowships will be supported across the university in 2012 at Academic Levels A and/or B ($61 504 to $93 638 pa plus 17% employer superannuation). A start-up grant, to be negotiated, may be provided to successful applicants. This will be a highly competitive scheme and applicants are expected to have a strong track record relative to opportunity.

Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss their research plan with Prof. Mark Taylor (mark.taylor@flinders.edu.au) prior to submission.

Applications close: 11 am, Monday, 25 June 2012
