About the Job
The mission of the Department of BioMedical Engineering at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute is to advance patient care by focusing on the development and validation of novel surgical treatment, rehabilitation techniques as well as injury mechanisms and prevention using state of the art biomedical research technologies and techniques. We are seeking a biomechanist who can work with the staff scientists, physicians and physical therapists to conduct human motion, biomechanical research studies as well as biomechanical evaluations on individual patients and athletes ranging from youth to professionals. Our newly renovated laboratory includes a 10 camera motion analysis system, 3 force plates, 2 EMG systems, an instrumented treadmill and a state of the art biplane fluoroscopy system. This is a very rigorous high-profile academic research position. It is anticipated that the applicant will be able to accept the challenge of this environment and represent themselves and the Institute well in the community.
Responsibilities of the Research Assistant
Assist in data collection in the BioMotion Laboratory for multiple concurrent studies and provide proper documentation and organization of the collected data.

Responsibilities of the Research Assistant
Assist in data collection in the BioMotion Laboratory for multiple concurrent studies and provide proper documentation and organization of the collected data.
- Utilize current software and develop additional data collection, reduction and analysis software for both clinical and research testing of upper and lower extremity (3D kinematics and kinetics) human motions.
- Coordinate and integrate the output data of the motion analysis system with the high-speed biplane fluoroscopy system.
- Test and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure reliability and validity of the data collection processes.
- Assist in abstract and manuscript preparation on a daily basis, with goal of (co-)authoring 4-5 peer-reviewed publications per year
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in biomechanics instrumentation, data collections and research principles
- Experience with 3D kinematics, kinetics data collection, reduction and the interpretation of such human movement data sets is required.
- Computer programming skills in Matlab is preferred.
- Able to work as a team member in a very active research group, self-motivated and with good organization skills.
- Proficient in writing skills to include abstract and manuscript preparation.
- This position is not restricted to individuals with US citizenship, permanent residence or work permits. However, no visa sponsorship will be provided and individuals must provide evidence of valid USA VISA status at the time of application.
