  • DOD Funded Post-Doctoral Fellowship – UT Austin / Brook Army Medical Center

Post-Doctoral Position in Locomotion Dynamics and Gait Rehabilitation at UT Austin:

The Nonlinear Biodynamics Lab at UT Austin and Military Performance Lab at the Center for the Intrepid, Brook Army Medical Center are actively seeking a full-time Post-Doctoral fellow for a 3-year DOD-funded project affiliated with the BADER Consortium (http://www.bader-c.org/) to study the biomechanics and motor control of human walking. The specific project will involve designing and conducting experiments and applying sophisticated analyses of time series data to assess step-to-step control of walking and balance and the effects of virtual-reality based gait training in individuals who have experienced an amputation. This position is to be hired through the University of Texas at Austin, but the project will be physically located in the Military Performance Laboratory (MPL) within the Center for the Intrepid (CFI)/Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), San Antonio, TX. CFI/BAMC is located less than 1 hour drive from UT Austin.

    Required skills/knowledge:
-- Candidate must have a Ph.D. degree (ABD considered) in Biomechanical or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution
-- Comprehensive knowledge of biomechanics and the functions of gait laboratories and research protocols
-- Strong computational skills (Matlab, Vicon Nexus, and Visual 3D) are essential
-- Ability to learn new software quickly, troubleshoot computer related issues, and provide a high attention to detail
-- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and staff

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in the largest military treatment facility in the U.S. The aim of the CFI is to provide state-of-the-art care for wounded service members as they return to the highest levels of physical, psychological and emotional function. The MPL provides injured military members with the best technology available to precisely analyze and interpret movement dysfunctions. More information can be found at:
