    Research Fellowship in Ergonomics and Safety & Occupational Biomechanics

    The Ergonomics and Safety Lab at the University of Utah (www.mech.utah.edu/ergo) is seeking motivated students to pursue a doctoral or masterʼs degree in mechanical engineering, with an emphasis in ergonomics/biomechanics. Students receive funding from a NIOSH Educational Resource Center whose goal is to promote education and research to carry out the purposes of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The fellowship will cover tuition, health insurance, and a competitive stipend. Review of applicants will continue until the positions are filled.

    Required qualifications include:
    • MS or BS degree in mechanical engineering/biomedical engineering or related fields
    • Must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident
    • Have an Undergrad GPA of 3.00 or a M.S. degree
    • Have a quantitative GRE score above 155 (approximately 700 on the old system)
    • Be accepted to graduate school in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah

    Desired qualifications include:
    • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience with 3D motion analysis

    The Ergonomics and Safety Lab houses state-of-the-art computational hardware and software tools. Current research interests are in the areas of Occupational Biomechanics, Gait Analysis, 3D-Musculoskeletal Modeling, Slips/Falls, Injury Prevention, and Rehabilitation.
