Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position within the Division of Musculoskeletal Sciences, Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, at the Penn State College of Medicine, in the laboratory of Dr. Gregory Lewis. The area of research will be the computational and/or experimental study of the mechanical environment in skeletal tissue, such as in tissue surrounding joint replacements, and the effects of this environment on the biology of tissue regeneration.
Ample opportunities exist for collaboration with orthopaedic clinicians, basic scientists, and engineers. The Division of Musculoskeletal Sciences includes six research faculty supported by grants from the NIH and NASA, among others. Available facilities include mechanical testing machines, high performance computational resources, in vivo micro-computed tomography, dedicated cadaveric facilities, cell culture facilities, microscopic imaging and gel documentation, and histomorphometric analysis equipment, in addition to a full array of shared Core Facilities.
The successful candidate will possess a strong background in engineering and skeletal biology, record of peer-reviewed journal publications, and the desire and ability to independently pursue novel research.
Penn State’s annual research expenditures total more than $800 million, including $105 million at the College of Medicine. The College of Medicine and Medical Center is located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, close to Harrisburg, PA, and within a 2-3 hour drive to Philadelphia, Washington, and New York City. Further information on life in the Hershey area can be found at: http://pennstatehershey.org/web/college/home/employment/abouthershey
Applicants should email a cover letter describing their research interests, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references, to:
