PhD-Thesis Position: Retina Tracking and Co-Registration Concepts Using Optical Coherence
Tomography and Confocal Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy

The Ophthalmic Technology Group of the University of Bern is looking for a PhD student as of
now for a research project at the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research (http://www.artorg.unibe.ch).
The project focuses on the development and investigation of generic methods to track and co-register
the retina using different image modalities originating from optical coherence tomography devices or
    confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopes.
Of particular interest in this work are real-time capability and registration reliability of the algorithms
    under pathologic conditions in patients.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate holding a Master’s degree or equivalent in electrical
engineering, computer science, physics, or a related field with experience in digital signal and/or image
processing. Background in medical image data processing and DSP algorithm development are an asset.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills and programming experience in Matlab, C/C++, or equivalent
and some experience in electronics. For a good working communication, oral and written fluency in English is
required. It is essential that the candidate is willing to work in a multidisciplinary and international research
team. The project is supported by the Haag-Streit Foundation for a duration of three years.

Feel free to contact Prof. Dr. Jens Kowal, at jens.kowal@artorg.unibe.ch or
    +41 31 632 7604. Please send your complete application via e-mail.
