Laboratory Research Analyst
Orthopaedic Surgery Research Laboratories

The Orthopaedic Surgery Research Laboratories at Duke University Medical Center seeks an individual to assist in biomedical engineering research within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Qualifications for this position include a B.S. or M.S. in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar background with a minimum of two years of experience with mechanical testing of biological tissue specimens. Previous research experience in the musculoskeletal system would be desirable, particularly in tendon or ligament. Computer programming skills and experience with materials testing systems are essential as are excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience with cell culture, molecular biology and histology are highly desirable.
Responsibilities will include designing and conducting research on the biology and biomechanics of tendon, ligament and tissue engineered tendon constructs, both in vitro and in animal models. Duties will also include the design and construction of testing apparatus, data collection, data analysis and assistance in preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and grant proposals. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as well as in a group setting that involves interactions with faculty and training of students and fellows.
Candidates must already be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
