Position for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Motor Control and Movement Rehabilitation
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to conduct research on computational motor control and movement rehabilitation. The research includes a collaboration between the Action Lab in Biology and Engineering (directed by Dagmar Sternad) and the Neuro-Cognitive Rehabilitation Research Laboratory in Physical Therapy (directed by Prudence Plummer d'Amato) at Northeastern University. Our joint research concentrates on the effects of rehabilitation on recovery of walking and obstacle negotiation in people with stroke, funded by the American Heart Association. Besides this clinical work, the postdoctoral fellow will also be involved in additional research projects in the Action Lab which aim to identify principles underlying skill learning. The lab has state-of-the-art equipment including several virtual reality set-ups with a robot manipulandum, 3D motion analysis system, EMG, EEG and TMS brain stimulation equipment.
Candidates should have a PhD degree in one of the following disciplines: Clinical or Computational Neuroscience, Engineering Sciences, Biology, Physics, or Kinesiology. The applicant should have a strong interest in an interdisciplinary approach to motor control and rehabilitation. He/she should have expertise in motion capture and programming of data acquisition and analysis (Matlab, C++, Statistics packages, etc.). The postdoctoral fellow is expected to participate in existing research projects but is also encouraged to bring to bear his/her expertise into the research project.
The Action Lab and the Neuro-Cognitive Rehabilitation Research Laboratory are located centrally on Northeastern University campus with affiliations to the Departments of Biology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physical Therapy, and Physics. Northeastern University is located in the heart of Boston and our labs have collaborations with colleagues in other institutions in the Boston area which, with its unparalleled academic environment, provides stimulating opportunities for interdisciplinary research.
