    Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of the Dean of the College of Human Sciences and Education. The Dean reports directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the college. The Dean provides ultimate administrative oversight for all aspects of academic life within the college, including strategic planning, fiscal management, personnel development, academic programs, research enterprises and student enrollment. The Dean also has primary responsibilities for external initiatives that include community outreach and development. About the College: The College of Human Sciences and Education is a new college established through a reorganization of several units on campus; it is one of the largest on campus. The College contains six parallel schools: Education, Human Resources Education and Workforce Development, Kinesiology, Library and Information Science, Social Work, and the University Laboratory School, a K-12 school on the campus.

    In 2011-2012, the five units offering undergraduate and graduate programs had 119 faculty, 19 administrative and professional employees, and 21 classified employees. They offered 7 undergraduate degrees and 18 graduate degrees. They enrolled 1,808 undergraduate and 1,024 graduate students, the largest cohort of graduate students at LSU. The sixth unit, the University Laboratory School, enrolled 1,300 K-12 students.

    Serving a mission to advance cognitive, social, emotional, communicative, and physical development across the lifespan, the College of Human Sciences and Education has a high profile on campus and a major impact on the quality of life of the citizens of Louisiana in the areas of education, information literacy, health and wellness, and social and human sciences. Through teaching, research, and service, the college plays a significant leadership role in addressing the complex human issues and policy decisions facing Louisiana and the nation. All units have nationally award-winning faculty and students.
    The diversity of disciplines and activities within the College becomes very clear in the variety of professional organizations that accredit the schools: the American Library Association (ALA), the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), American Alliance for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance (NASPE/AAHPERD), and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

    About Applicants and Nominees: Applicants and nominees must hold a doctorate, or equivalent professional experience, in a field appropriate for leading the schools within the College of Human Sciences and Education. They must also qualify for a tenured position at the rank of Professor in an appropriate academic unit. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to educational quality and scholarly excellence, a record of working with others collaboratively, a record of capitalizing on emerging opportunities, and commitments to putting students first, to collegiality, and to shared governance. Further, the successful candidate will have experience with and a commitment to community engagement and outreach. The faculty, staff, and students in this college care about people and about making positive impacts in their lives. Therefore, the new Dean will encourage the College’s faculty, staff, and students to express their talents and their visions of the differences they can make. The successful candidate will have a history of empowering others; he or she will thrive on promoting the work and potential of the faculty and students in the College while helping to develop a vision of the potential of the College. Viewing the diversity within the College as a strength, the new Dean must serve as facilitator and consensus builder among a diverse assemblage of disciplines and perspectives while appreciating and supporting the unique identities of the individual units.

    In an era in which the delivery of higher education faces major changes, the successful candidate will have a history of embracing change, demonstrating the flexibility and creativity to manage it. The new Dean will serve as an articulate and zealous advocate of the College within the Higher Education community, locally, nationally, and internationally. In that vein, the successful candidate will have a talent for attracting and retaining good people which he or she will apply to support and expand the work of the College. The successful candidate will also have experience generating substantial dollars from external constituencies (fundraising, self-generated funds and grants). Finally, the new Dean will embrace the university's ongoing strategic-planning process and a commitment to an extended period of leadership at LSU.
