Job Summary:
A three year grant-funded Research Associate position is available at the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver Campus (Vancouver General Hospital site).
The successful candidate will carry out independent research on developing radiographic-based methods for kinematics and shape analyses of human knee/hip/spine, pre-operative planning and post-operative evaluation of total joint replacement implants, and developing computer-aided navigation systems based on fluoroscopy and inertial measurement units. The Research Associate will supervise graduate students and undergraduate summer students, and will also play an active role in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and research grant applications.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Biomechanical Engineering, at least one year’s industrial experience in tool design, and at least three years of experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow in developing image-based orthopaedic techniques and devices, designing orthopaedic implants, and performing in-vitro experiments and biomechanical modeling of human joints. A strong background in orthopaedic biomechanics, medical device development, engineering design, and image analysis is necessary. Candidates should have productive publications records, excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and oral and written communication skills.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This three year term position is grant funded. Evening and weekend work will be frequently required. Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of Canada to be considered.
