Nature of the Work
This position provides biomechanical, technical, engineering and mathematical support to a variety of ongoing industry and academic research projects. In addition, a key aspect of this role is to provide advice and mentorship to students, technicians, and interns. The incumbent will be working on a variety of research projects at the same time with multiple complex issues which will require good time management, the ability to adapt to continuous changes and shifting in priorities and the ability to learn new technologies and data analysis methods as needed.
Work will primarily be carried out on industry projects consisting of biomechanical data collection, analysis, and report submission. The projects typically involve the use of human subjects, but are sometimes restricted to dealing with mechanical systems. There is a strong mathematical component to the work as data analysis involving vector based and time series analysis are a pre-requisite for this position. This is a full time position that may occasionally require working evenings and/or weekends.
Accountabilities
- Performs data collection for Biomechanical projects, using several tools and state-of-the-art equipment.
- Interprets data using vector based and times series analysis.
- Prepares, submits and reviews publications for relevant peer reviewed journals.
- Writes reports for submission to industry partners and/or granting agencies.
- Supports/drives grant applications.
- Organizes subject recruitment and scheduling.
- Coaches interns, students or co-workers.
- Presents research projects in public seminars or to clients.

BRI is a company that works out of the Human Performance Lab (http://www.ucalgary.ca/hpl/) at the University of Calgary. Our group consists of about 15-20 individuals, including interns, PhD students, administrative staff and faculty members. Our objective is to be the global leader in research related to movement, exercise and sport and to support our clients throughout the complete product development life cycle from ideation to commercialization. Our current clients include adidas, Mondo, Dr. Scholl’s and the US military. From an employer perspective, our mission is to prepare everyone who comes to BRI for their next stage in life.
