Job Summary
The Biosciences Group of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute is seeking an outstanding Post Doctoral Research Fellow for a one-year, renewable appointment. The Biosciences Group conducts automotive biomechanics research, focusing on injury prevention and the development of design tools for vehicle accommodation and safety assessment. We are leaders in gathering, analyzing, and applying three-dimensional anthropometric data for engineering applications, particularly in the motor-vehicle domain. We are seeking a post-doctoral scholar to conduct research in human body shape modeling.
The successful candidate will collaborate with UMTRI researchers to analyze and apply a rich dataset of body-scan data from recent studies of children and adults. Applications include developing finite-element human body models used for crash simulations, generating avatars for ergonomics analysis, and developing new human simulation methods based on body shape.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidates will have a PhD in engineering, statistics, computer science, or another related field. Strong scientific computing skills are required, including knowledge of high-level languages such as Matlab, Mathematica, R, and Python. A strong foundation in computational mathematics is required. Experience with finite-element analysis, advanced statistical methods for spatial data, or human modeling research will be beneficial.
Additional Information
This position offers the opportunity to develop a research program and enhance skills necessary for a successful academic/research career. Extensions are available dependent upon performance and funding.
The quality of life in Ann Arbor is outstanding. The combination of a large, major research university and a small, safe, family-oriented community make Ann Arbor an ideal environment to develop an academic and research career. Ann Arbor also offers an outstanding combination of sports, recreation, and cultural events.
U-M EEO/AA Statement
The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
