RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and advise graduate students in the area of Strength and Conditioning. Conduct research and seek external funding in the area of specialization. Provide service to the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and/or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Responsibilities also include department, college, and university committee assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications include a doctorate in exercise sciences/kinesiology/biomechanics or closely related areas with a research focus associated with strength training and conditioning. Successful candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, recruit and mentor quality graduate students, acquire external funding, and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. New faculty will be expected to be significantly engaged in scholarship supported by extramural funding. Individuals that would be comfortable teaching an undergraduate Biomechanics course are encouraged to apply. Experience working with diverse student groups and first-generation students is highly desirable.
RANK AND SALARY: Searches are open to all ranks but senior-level appointments require a proven scholarly and significant external funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT: 9-month appointment will be effective August 15, 2013.
THE DEPARTMENT AND THE UNIVERSITY: The department offers BS and MS degrees, and participates in PhD programs with exercise and sport sciences concentrations. The department is one of the largest departments at Texas Tech University and enrolls over 1,200 undergraduates in programs of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Physical Education/Teacher Education, Exercise and Health Promotion, Exercise Sciences, and Sport Studies). Approximately 90 graduate students are enrolled in the Master’s degree program in Exercise and Sport Sciences. The Department also provides concentration areas in doctoral programs within other colleges. Texas Tech University is a large state-supported institution located in Lubbock, Texas, a center of cultural, commercial, medical, and professional services. In addition to nearly all traditional colleges and schools, the University has nationally recognized law and medical schools. Texas Tech University is actively pursuing strategic initiatives that will enhance its stature as a national research university. Successful candidates would be expected to contribute to this effort by virtue of their scholarly research and external funding.
