  • PhD Assistantships in Computational Biomechanics at the University of Denver

    The Computational Biomechanics Laboratory (CBL) and the Center for Orthopaedic Biomechanics at the University of Denver is seeking several highly motivated individuals to pursue doctoral degrees in mechanical or biomedical engineering. The research focus is in the development, verification, and application of multi-scale finite element models of the human spine and lower extremities to asses natural and implanted joint mechanics. The fully-funded assistantships cover tuition, health insurance, and a competitive stipend. Review of applicants will continue until the positions are filled, with potential start dates as early as June 1, 2013.

    Desired qualifications for the PhD assistantship include:
    * MS degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering
    * Knowledge of finite element analysis and proficiency with commercial FE codes.
    * Knowledge of knee, spine, or hip biomechanics
    * Prior research-based journal publications
    * Proficiency with programming languages
    * Knowledge of probabilistic methods, and/or nonlinear optimization techniques
    * Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills required
    * Knowledge of musculoskeletal modeling and simulation
    * Demonstrated skills in the collection of in vivo and/or in vitro laboratory measurements

    The Computational Biomechanics Laboratory is part of the DU Center for Orthopaedic Biomechanics. For a description of the CBL and its partner laboratories, please visit our website at http://www.du.edu/biomechanics

    To apply, please email a curriculum vitae and brief statement of research interests and
    experience to Kevin Shelburne, PhD (kevin.shelburne@du.edu).
