We are looking for an engineering postdoctoral research associate to join our Musculoskeletal Modeling Lab. This postdoctoral associate will be involved primarily in a project on in vivo dynamic behavior of lumbar vertebral discs during lifting tasks, and possibly in a few other projects based on a combined approach incorporating in vivo, in vitro, and in silico (computer modeling) methods. Experience with biomechanical modeling and analysis is essential, but an applicant should also be comfortable with experimental testing. Extensive resources are available for in vivo joint function (including high-speed dynamic stereo-radiography), computer modeling, and in vitro biomechanical testing. We expect this person to be self-motivated, have a strong work ethic, excellent verbal and written communication skills. He or she must be immediately eligible to work. We provide great opportunities and a very collegial, nurturing environment to work collaboratively with a team of scientists, clinicians, research fellows, students, orthopaedic fellows and residents. Individuals who aspire to pursue a career in academia are particularly encouraged to apply.
The applicant should have a PhD degree in mechanical engineering, bioengineering, industrial engineering (ergonomics), or a related discipline. The position is for a minimum of one year, with renewal dependent on performance and continued availability of funding. Salary is commensurate with credentials.
Interested individuals please send CV (including contact information for 3 references), cover letter, and sample publications to Dr. Xudong Zhang, either via e-mail (orls.pitt@gmail.com), or regular mail to the following address:
Orthopaedic Research Laboratories, University of Pittsburgh
3820 South Water Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203
We will be attending the ORS in San Antonio and available for a possible interview and discussion.
