    The post is to support a project funded by Action Medical Research to improve the diagnosis and ultimately prevent the development of Perthes’ disease. The aims of the project are to develop a computational model of the developing human hip joint which will be used examine the changing biomechanical conditions in children with and without Perthes’ disease, and to investigate in detail mechanisms that might lead to collapse of the femoral head. It is joint project between the Medical and Biological Engineering Research Group at the University of Hull and Paediatric Orthopaedics at the University of Southampton.

    The successful applicant will have a first or 2:1 degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline, together with a PhD in bioengineering, biomechanics or relevant related field. The applicant must have significant experience in the practical application of finite element analysis, preferably with experience of modelling the musculoskeletal system.
