The Department of Physical Therapy at East Carolina University is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12 month tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates must hold (or be near completion) a research doctoral degree (PhD or comparable) and be eligible for PT licensure in North Carolina. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the area of musculoskeletal physical therapy practice, biomechanics, and movement analysis with opportunities to teach in other areas of interest. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a productive and competitive research agenda. All faculty are expected to engage in department, college, university, and professional service. Opportunities for clinical practice are available through the Department’s faculty practice.
Instructional facilities include state-of-the-art lecture and laboratory classrooms with multimedia instruction centers including Internet and video conferencing capabilities. All faculty have access to the Department’s two well-equipped and spacious motion labs (Human Movement Lab = 2000 ft2, Balance Lab = 1000 ft2) containing three 8-camera Qualisys motion analysis systems, six (in ground) AMTI force platforms, a split-belt Bertec Fully Instrumented Treadmill, a NeuroCom dynamic force plate system, two 16-channel Motion Lab Systems EMG setups, a Novel Pedar in-shoe dynamic pressure measuring system, a HUMAC NORM Isokinetic Extremity System, a HUR balance platform, a GaitRite system, and a LiteGait bodyweight support system. Additionally, PT faculty are in place to collaborate on blood and muscle analysis research.

East Carolina University (27,000 + students) is an integral part of Vidant Medical Center, the regional hospital and rehabilitation center that serves 29 counties. In addition to graduating the most allied health students in the state, the College of Allied Health Sciences has a strong working relationship with the ECU Brody School of Medicine, the East Carolina Heart Institute, and the School of Dental Medicine. The Department of Physical Therapy is housed in a state of the art building that is adjacent to the Health Sciences Library, College of Nursing, Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, and Vidant Medical Center. The Department currently consists of ten full-time academic and three clinical faculty and operates two off-site physical therapy clinics. The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is a fully-accredited three year program which graduates 30 students annually.
