  • Research Scientist (Ctr for Appl Biomech, Univ of Viriginia, Charlottesville, USA)

The University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Science, is seeking applicants for a part-time (30 hours per week) Research Scientist position at the Center for Applied Biomechanics. This position is research funded and will end June 30, 2015.

    Tasks include:
Performing applied biomechanics research and leading technical efforts related to complex biological biomechanics testing.
Directing implantation and installation of specialized instrumentation used to measure human mechanical response to impact, including the External Peripheral Instrument for Deformation Measurement (EPIDM) and optoelectronic stereophotogrammetry.
Developing innovative test methodologies utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation to quantify thoracic deformation and human skeletal motion occurring under a variety of loading conditions conducted under well-controlled laboratory conditions.
Performing detailed post-test analysis to describe six degree-of-freedom motion of skeletal structures within the human body, such as the ribcage, shoulder complex, and spinal column.
Synthesizing analyzed human response data into biofidelity targets for the development and improvement of current anthropomorphic test devices and computational models used for injury prediction.
The candidate must hold an advanced degree in medicine and also be formally trained as an engineer with a minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineer or be a licensed Professional Engineer or both. The candidate must have extensive experience in characterizing skeletal six-degree-of-freedom motion during impact loading and must have peer-reviewed publications on this specific topic.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Please include a CV/Resume, Cover Letter and Contact Information for 3 References - name, email, phone.
